Abstract: Association between sarcopenia, as evaluated by grip strength (GS) and skeletal muscle\nmass (SMM), and depression, as evaluated by Beck Depression Inventory-2nd edition (BDI-II) in\nchronic liver diseases (CLDs, n = 414, average age = 61.5 years), was investigated. Study subjects\nwere classified into four groups: Group A (n = 60), lower GS and lower SMM (sarcopenia); group B\n(n = 44), lower GS and higher SMM; group C (n = 100), higher GS and lower SMM; group D (n = 210),\nhigher GS and higher SMM....................
Background: This study aims to investigate the chlamydia pneumoniae infection (PC) in patients with coronary\nheart disease.\nMethods: A total of 92 patients with coronary heart disease, who were treated with percutaneous coronary\nintervention (PCI), were selected as the case group. In addition, 50 healthy people were enrolled as the control\ngroup. The incidences of CP infection and serum Chlamydia pneumoniae IgA antibody (CP-IgA), high sensitive Creactive\nprotein (hs-CRP), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were compared in these two groups. The classification of coronary\nartery lesion, the incidence of perioperative cardiovascular events, and adverse prognosis events within six months\nafter procedure were compared.\nResults: The incidence of CP infection in the case group was higher (42.4% vs. 0%, P < 0.05). Furthermore, 17\npatients were at grade I, 39 patients were at grade II, and 36 patients were at grade III. The incidences for these\nthree kinds of patients were 17.6, 30.8, and 66.7%. The incidence of CP infection at grade III was higher than that of\ngrade I or II (P < 0.05). Serum CP-IgA, hs-CRP and IL-6 levels increased with the severity of the coronary artery\ndisease (P < 0.05), and the serum hs-CRP and IL-6 levels of patients with perioperative cardiovascular events were\nhigher (P < 0.05). Moreover, the serum CP-IgA levels of the patients with adverse prognosis events were also higher\n(P < 0.05).\nConclusions: Patients with coronary heart disease have a high CP infection rate. The degree of infection is relevant\nto the severity of the coronary artery lesions and postoperative prognosis of patients, suggesting that CP infection\nmay be an important factor affecting the incidence and prognosis of coronary heart disease....
Background. In the context of a causal relationship between stress and migraine, coping strategies are aimed at managing stressful\nlife events and reducing the distressing emotions connected to them. Methods. Sixty-one consecutive patients with migraine\nwithout aura (MwoA) and sixty-one healthy controls (HCs) completed three self-report questionnaires assessing a broad range\nof coping (cognitive and behavioural) strategies: the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (COPE), the Coping\nInventory for Stressful Situation (CISS), and the Proactive Coping Inventory (PCI). Moreover, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), a\nscale measuring self-perception of stress, global cognitive functioning, depressive symptoms, apathy, state, and trait anxiety, was\nadministered to all participants. Results. No significant difference was found on the scales and subscales of PCI and CISS as well\nas in the PSS between MwoA patients and HCs.......................
Abstract: Background and objectives: Obesity and anxiety and/or depression are common\ncomorbidities in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). For doctors treating\nCOPD, cough has a certain importance as a symptom. The purpose of this study was to figure out\nhow obesity and anxiety/depression may influence the subjective assessment of cough. Materials and\nMethods: 110 patients with COPD participated in the study. The patients were divided into two\ngroups, one including obese patients, and the other including patients with normal body weight.\nAll patients filled out the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) questionnaire, evaluated\nthe severity of their cough by using visual analogue scale (VAS) on the 1st and 10th day of treatment,\nand underwent a 12 hour cough monitoring with a special cough monitoring device both on the 1st\nand the 10th day of treatment...........................
Background: Cesarean section is now the most common major surgical procedure\nperformed on women worldwide. With the increasing numbers of cesarean\nsections, there is the need to utilize evidence based techniques to optimize\noutcomes and minimize complications. We hypothesize that omission\nof the bladder flap in both primary and repeat cesarean sections will be associated\nwith shorter operating time without a significant increase in intraoperative\nand postoperative complications. Methods: 550 patients were enrolled\nin the study. They were randomly allocated in the 2 groups to evaluate the effects\nof cancelling the bladder dissection. Results: Significant reduction of the\ntotal operating time (p = 0.01), skin to delivery time (p = 0.02) and micro-\nhematuria (p = 0.01) in group with bladder omission. Long term result :\nIncluding more bladder adhesion and fibrosis in the cases with bladder dissection.\nConclusions: Omission of the bladder dissection achieved short-term\nadvantages as regards reduction of operating time, incision-delivery duration\nand decreased blood loss as well as long-term effects include different in the\nbladder adhesion....
Background: Overdiagnosis and overtreatment of urinary tract infection (UTI) with antibiotics is a concern. In older\nadults, diagnosis of UTI using near-patient urine tests (reagent strip tests, dipsticks) is advised against because the\nage-related increase in asymptomatic bacteriuria can cause false-positive results. Instead, UTI diagnosis should be\nbased on a full clinical assessment. Previous research lacks systematic information on urine dipstick use in hospitals.\nThe aim of this study was to examine the use of urine dipstick tests and microbiology among older adult hospital\nadmissions in relation to recommended UTI diagnostic criteria. A further aim was to assess factors associated with\nthe use of dipsticks.......................
